The Royal Spotlight is an interview series where I highlight queens from a variety of pageant systems. This month I have the pleasure of featuring Nicole Sibiski, Ms. Culture Galaxy 2020.
Tell us about yourself.
On a joyous day of September 5th, in the City of Brotherly Love, I was born to Bonnie and
Angel Ayala. At a young age, I journeyed across the ocean blue with my family to live on my enchanted native island of Puerto Rico, where the sounds of coquis and crashing waves would cradle me peacefully to sleep. As I grew up, my parents played a major influential role in my life as I learned about equality and diversity through my mother’s government background, and I learned about engineering and social interactions through my father. Upon graduating high school, I simultaneously pursued my dreams of university studies as well as becoming an actress, television host, and model.
University studies has always been and continues to be an active part of my pedagogy. I
graduated with a degree in Travel and Tourism and with a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Sociology and Bilingual Education, a Master’s Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (T.E.S.O.L.) and completed two years of doctoral studies in Education Leadership. Upon completing my degrees, I graduated Summa Cum Laude, top of my class, along with many prestigious awards and scholarships.
As a teacher of education and a mother of three, I believe in Albert Einstein’s famous quote, “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge,” for it is my supreme passion to educate the minds, hearts, and souls of every child in my life in order for them to live a righteous life and to safely navigate through unexplored worlds. As a wife, sister, daughter, aunt, friend, and pageant title holder, it is my supreme art to provide an ear to listen, a hand to hold, and a heart to guide with love and no judgement. Fast forwarding into time, I found love and married my soulmate; eventually moving to the City that Never Sleeps, New York.
Some of my hobbies include spending quality time with my family and friends, traveling,
swimming, writing, reading, playing goofy games with my children and students, and volunteering my time helping members of multiple communities as well as planning a missionary with my church to serve children and families in underdeveloped areas in Cambodia.
When did you start competing in pageants?
The story behind how I started competing in pageants is quite hilarious, but I’ll save that
for a conversation if we ever meet! My first pageant was when I was nineteen years old while living in Puerto Rico.
Why do you compete in pageants?
I compete in pageants because they allow me to grow as a person, and pageants instill
traits such as confidence, bravery, and empathy, all of which are needed in today’s world. After leaving my native island, I retired from the pageant world and this past year my children motivated me in to returning so that I can continue to work on and advocate for my deepest platform passions: battling against hunger, homelessness, illiteracy, and domestic violence.
How many titles have you won?
I have won a total of seventeen titles: Cara Bella, 1999; BomBom, 1999; Miss Bikini Tropical del Caribe, 1999; Asi Estellar, 2000; All American Holiday Princess, Long Island, 2018; Royal Miss Florida,2019; Miss Empire State 2019/20 Miss Honey Bunny, 2019; Miss Love Thy Military, 2019; Ms. Belle of the Ball 2019, Miss BoB 2020, Miss Cinco de Mayo, 2019; Ms. Westchester County ECUSA, 2019/20, Ms. Patriotic Model of the Year, 2019/20, Ms. Puerto Rico Culture Galaxy 2019/20, Ms. New York American Nation, 2019/20, Ms. Culture Galaxy 2019/20. I hope to continue winning more titles, so I can continue to build on my platforms.
Tell us about Ms Culture Galaxy International.
Ms. Culture Galaxy is an international level competition in which contestants are able to continue developing on “Beauty, Strength, and Diversity” within our multicultural society. Upon my Ms. Culture Galaxy reign, I have been able to work on my platforms across many diverse cultures and communities. My ultimate goal that I hope to accomplish under this reign is to pioneer new ministries for children, women, and families in underdeveloped areas in Cambodia. In addition to volunteering and working hard on my platforms, I have developed many friendships while also being blessed with opportunities to meet and learn from people with different cultural, geographic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
What have you learned about yourself through your pageant experience?
Through my pageant experience, something that I’ve learned about myself is that outer beauty is the inner reflection of one’s mind, heart, and soul. It is important to always be true to yourself. Beauty has no rules, regulations or quantifiable numbers, so I believe it is important that people truly know who I am; therefore, I choose to be kind, genuine, happy, and positive so that it can be captured by others and spread all throughout the galaxy!
What are your future plans for your pageant career?
My future plans for my pageant career are to continue working diligently and effortlessly on my platforms.
What words of advice do you live by?
There are a few words of advice that I live by: “In a world where you can be anything, choose kind!” ~J. Dukes Lee; “It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger.” ~Nelson Mandela; and finally, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self- seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” ~1 Corinthians 13: 4-8.
