The Royal Spotlight is an interview series where I highlight queens from a variety of pageant systems. This month I have the pleasure of featuring Mary Carolyn Thies, Mrs. Virgina US Continental 2019.
When did you start competing in pageants?
I competed in my first pageant in 2014 for Mrs. Virginia.
Why do you compete in pageants?
For me, competing is a good way to promote a valued platform that is a public service. It is also great motivation for getting in shape, and it is fun to meet new people.
How many titles have you won?
I have been appointed as Mrs. McLean 2014 & 2015 and Mrs. Virginia US Continental 2019.
Tell us about the US Continental Pageant system.
The US Continental Pageant system is a warm, family oriented and professional organization. They promote and encourage women to be themselves. We each have unique gifts to offer the world, and I believe we can do this partially through a pageant platform.
What have you learned about yourself through your pageant experience?
I have learned that when you realize that your personal goals are achieved in a pageant, you are very happy for everyone’s success.
What are your future plans for your pageant career?
I plan to promote my nutrition education platform to encourage people to study nutrition, and do what is best for their health. Everyone is unique.
What words of advice do you live by?
I live in the present moment and listen to others with compassion and with my full attention.
