The Royal Spotlight is an interview series where I highlight queens from a variety of pageant systems. This month I have the pleasure of featuring Kirsten Floyd, 2018-2019 Miss Tattnall County.
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Kirsten M. Floyd, a senior majoring in multimedia journalism at Georgia Southern University reigning from the southern sweet city of Hinesville, Georgia. I graduated from Liberty County High School in Hinesville, Georgia. I intern at WJBF News Channel 6 in Augusta, Georgia. I’m a praise dance choreographer at my home church, Bethlehem Temple Church in Jesup, Georgia. I’m a pageant director of the Miss Liberty Elegance Pageant in Hinesville, Georgia as well as a radio producer of WHNL Gospel 94.9 and WOAH 106.3. I’m also the news director at Georgia Southern University, WVGS 91.9, “The Voice of Georgia Southern.” I’m a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and a staff member of the Sincerely, Southern Magazine. My hobbies include playing drums, cheerleading, volunteering in the community, and competing in pageants.
When did you start competing in pageants?
After winning the title 2013 Homecoming Queen in my senior of high school, it made me want to start competing in pageants. I started competing in pageants in 2017 of my sophomore year of college.
Why do you compete in pageants?
I compete in pageants because it boosts my confidence level to a maximum and it helps with public speaking and performance skills. I get opportunities to meet and create bonds with new pageant sisters. With being a titleholder, I can represent an amazing organization/city/county/or state and be able to make appearances by serving my community through philanthropy.
How many titles have you won?
I have won three titles. I was crowned 2017-2018 Miss Black Liberty County US Ambassador, and I am also the reigning titleholders of 2018-2019 Miss Tattnall County and 2018-2019 Miss Evans County.
Tell us about Miss Tattnall County.
I prepared a lot for this pageant. I had my very first pageant coach, Alexis Durrence, and she did an amazing job helping me prepare for the pageant from the interview to the walk. The Miss Tattnall County Pageant was held in Glennville, Georgia. The pageant consists of two categories: a five minute interview and beauty walk which included side awards.
After I competed, I won Prettiest Eyes, Prettiest Smile, and Best Interview award. With winning the title of Miss Tattnall County, I also received a $500 scholarship.
What have you learned about yourself through your pageant experience?
I’ve learned that you should never be anyone else but yourself. Being myself means I’m free and I’m striving to let my light shine every day I wake up. I’ve also learned to trust in God like never before because none of my pageant accomplishments would ever have happened without Him. I’ve learned to be patient and be more humble as well because God has a plan for me and all I have to do is patiently wait on Him to reveal the blessings for my life, especially when it comes to competing in more pageants.
What are your future plans for your pageant career?
My future plans are to continue my pageant journey by competing in national level pageants as well as local pageants.
What words of advice do you live by?
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
