On November 30, 2017, I had the pleasure of serving as guest speaker for the November meeting of Pumps and P.E.A.R.L.S. This meeting took place at South Hampton K-8 School in Birmingham, Alabama. A group of over 30 girls learned about what it takes to manifest a crown. They learned a crown is not just a piece of headgear worn by a king or queen. A crown is a symbol of honor and achievement. A crown can be a title, good grades, awards, etc.
In order for them to manifest their own crowns, they learned they must shift their mindsets, educate themselves, and develop self-confidence. During the meeting, I asked them to share what they loved about themselves. This exercise was designed to help them shift their thinking and embrace themselves. We also did an exercise where I taught the girls how to walk with confidence. The meeting ended with me conducting a table etiquette session with girls. They were instructed on how to properly conduct themselves during a meal.
I thoroughly enjoyed this event, and I believe the girls enjoyed themselves and learned something new. Thanks goes out to Dr. Shonterrius Lawson-Fountain for the invitation. I pray I continue to have the opportunity to empower women and girls for success.
