Today is Valentine’s Day, and there are many couples and loved ones participating in this eventful day. Since this is the day of love, I thought it would be fitting to talk about my experience with planning a wedding. As many of you know, I got married on September 30, 2017, which is a little over 4 months ago. It is wedding season, and I know there are many brides that are planning their weddings this year, and it can be a stressful process. If you are like me and want to feel like royalty on your wedding day without breaking the bank, here are five tips on planning a royal wedding fit for a queen.
Find a Good Wedding Planning Book to Read.
If you are not currently a reader, you are going to be one today. As I was beginning to plan my wedding, my sister in law gifted to me The Everything Wedding Book (4th Edition) by Kate Martin. This book provided me with thorough information that guided me through the wedding planning process. If your budget will not allow you to purchase a wedding book, borrow one from a former bride or see if your local library has one on the shelves.
Create a Pinterest Account.
Pinterest is full of ideas for the DIY queen. The site helped me to find great ideas on decor and it even provided me with hairstyle ideas I could use for my natural hair.
Opt for a Video Save the Date.
I did not want to spend the money to send out paper save the dates because I knew I would have to pay for invitations . I decided to do a video save the date instead. It was creative and out of the box, and most importantly it was FREE!
Wish, Hobby Lobby, and Dollar Tree Are Your Friends.
I bet you are thinking I am crazy, but I am telling the truth. Listen, I was not about to spend thousands of dollars on a one day event (Place your focus on the marriage and not the wedding.) so I opted to find items like flower girl baskets, ring bearer pillow, cake topper, guestbook, and candles for my special day at the above locations. The items were elegant, and they only cost me a few dollars.
Create an account on a Wedding Website.
During my engagement period, I had the amazing opportunity to serve as a Community Contributor for Wedding.com. As a community contributor, I made posts in the online community and offered advice and information to the brides. Not only was I compensated for my work, I received advice and information that helped me plan my own wedding. Sign up for an account on a site like Wedding.com, and participate in their online community. The information is invaluable.
Best believe some pageant queens may have expensive tastes, but this pageant queen turned pageant bride was not about that life. The experience was the most important thing to me, and I accomplished that goal. That is something money cannot buy.
