Pageant Girls Run is a series that details the health and fitness journeys of women and girls in pageantry.
Wow! Where has the time gone? It has been two years since I lasted posted in this series. If you can remember from the last Pageant Girls Run post, I made a vow that I would go on race break until 2017. Well, life happened. I got engaged, quit a job, became self-employed, married, and moved to a new city all in the span of one year. Can anyone say STRESSFUL AND OVERWHELMING? I did not have any time to train for a race or even have the funds to pay for one because all of my coin was going to bills and wedding expenses. Adulting is real, but I digress.
Of course I always knew I would one day return to my love of running, but I just needed to make the time. So last month, I made a conscious decision to start back running consistently. The only way I knew I would hold on to my commitment was to sign up for a race. Once I am financially obligated to something I am all in. I don’t play about my coin. The funny thing is the race I signed up for was the last race I competed in 2016. Yes, that would be the Woodstock 5K. Go figure! Here is the recap!
On August 4, 2018, I participated in the 38th Annual Woodstock 5K! This year the Woodstock 5K was also the Road Runners Club of America National 5K Championship. Right at 1,000 runners from Alabama and other states competed in the oldest footrace in the Southeast. The race kicked off at 7:30 a.m. on the historic Woodstock Avenue in Anniston, Alabama.
For it to be my 1st race in two years, I did not do too badly on time. I completed the race in 35:06 with a pace of 11:20 per mile. Of course, this is not my fastest time, but I will increase my speed in due time. I especially enjoyed running with the local BGR! Team and my friend and sorority sister, Anita. The race has changed in the last two years with regards to attendance, vendors, and pre-race events, but the course itself is still both challenging and fun. I was low key upset that they did not give me the option to purchase a medal this year. I was looking forward to adding to my collection. Hopefully, I will get one at the next race.
I encourage any pageant contestant to incorporate running or walking into their health and fitness journey. Not only does it help in weight loss, but it acts as stress reliever and aids in the release toxins from the body. Yes, cardio does the body good.
Do you see me crossing the finish line?

Well, this girl does not plan on taking anymore race breaks. I have records to break and medals to win. Besides, if I ever decide to compete again, I want my body to be pageant ready.
