Guess what? Go ahead, and take a guess! Today is my 4 year blogiversary! Four years ago, I started KrystleClearPageantry.com. I must say it has been a blessing to see the site grow in such a beautiful way. Blogging was not an initial desire of mine, but I am so glad I stepped out on faith and began this blogging journey.
How did I get started?
My blogging journey began in 2014 when I received the opportunity to serve as a guest blogger for NaturalGirlsRock.com. During that time, I was a Natural Girls Rock Global Brand Ambassador, and I was afforded the opportunity to guest post on their website. At the time I really did not know much about blogging, but I knew I wanted to share information about my own natural hair journey.
Who is my inspiration?
I became acclimated with blogging by being an active follower of CourtneyLuv.com. CourtneyLuv.com was a fashion, arts, music, and entertainment site created by my sorority sister Courtney L. Teague. The more I read CourtneyLuv.com and followed Courtney’s journey, the more I became interested in blogging. I then decided to pursue this new venture. I purchased and read her book Just Blog It Already, and I signed up for her Blogger University 101 course because I wanted to learn more about the industry. After taking Blogger University 101, I discovered that my primary niche was pageantry.
Why pageantry?
I have been in the pageantry industry for over 15 years, and it is a topic that I love to talk about constantly. I was confident that I had the knowledge and expertise to share that would be beneficial to women and girls in the industry. After much procrastination, I finally made the decision to launch KrystleClearPageantry.com.
The original name of the site was KrystleBell.com, but as the brand grew, a name change was necessary.
I published my first post on the site on July 12, 2015. I was nervous because I did not know if I would be successful in the blogging industry.
What have I learned?
Blogging is Hard Work.
It takes time and dedication to craft the right post. You have to stay laser focused and create consistent content in order to see any real results.
Success Takes Time.
Contrary to popular belief, you cannot start a blog and expect to have major success in a few short months. Even though I have been blogging for 4 years, I am still not where I need to be success wise. I have a lot to learn in order to see the desire results from my hard work. If you are thinking about blogging, make sure you are in it for the long haul. You can set up a blog very easily by using Bluehost. I have been using Bluehost to host my site since 2015. Creating a blog is a great way to document your pageant journey and build your brand.
Networking Is Important.
You cannot always rely on social media to advertise your blog. You must network and tell others about your blog yourself.
Collaborations are Key for Growth.
Guest writing and appearing on other platforms has really helped with the growth of the blog. Assisting someone else in growing their brand is the key to success. In the words of Zig Ziglar, “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”
