November is here, and we are weeks away from the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Before you plan to indulge in satisfying your stomach or buying things for yourself and/or family members, take a moment and think about ways to use your crown to help someone else during the holiday season. I personally love serving during this season because it is ingrained in my DNA.
As a queen it is important to understand that the crown is not about you; it is about what you can do for others. Serving does not require a lot time, but it will make a world of difference in your life and in the lives of others. I have provided a list of 5 ways to use the crown for good during the holiday season.
1. Jingle Bell Run
The Jingle Bell Run is a 5K event sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation. You can grab a couple of your sister queens and make the 3.1 mile trek to raise awareness. If you don’t want to walk or run, you may be able to volunteer at a water station or serving on a cheering squad.

2. Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child is an event sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse International Relief. It is where you pack a shoebox full of toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children in other countries. Make sure to pray over your box and include a $9.00 donation to cover shipping. You can take your shoebox to any drop off location during National Collection Week which is November 12-19, 2018.

3. The Salvation Army Volunteer Bell Ringer
I bet you have seen those bell ringers at your local Wal-Mart? Well, you can sign up to be one too. Dress warm and wear your favorite Santa hat, and ring the bell for donations for the Salvation Army.

4. Angel Tree
Angel Tree is a program of the Prison Fellowship that reaches out to children of prisoners and their families. Through this program children are provided with Christmas gifts. Churches, groups, and organizations can register to sign up to volunteer with the program. Put a smile on a child’s face in the midst of the hard time he or she may be facing during the absence of a parent or parents.

5. Toys for Tots
Toys for Tots is sponsored by the Marines, and it is designed to provide toys for less fortunate children. Many cities have local campaigns, and you can contribute through that avenue.
These are just a few ways you can contribute during the holiday season, but don’t limit yourself. Do a Google search and find other organizations, charities, and events to support. I am a firm believer we are created to serve in some form or fashion and what better way to do it than by utilizing the crown. Not only will you be meeting a need, but you will also be serving as an ambassador for the pageant system you represent. In the words of America’s Elite Miss National Director, Kerrie Juliana, “There is more to this girl than a gown and a crown.” Show the world that this statement reigns true.
